THE CARE & REPAIR GUIDE
Choose care by material, equipment component and problem. Each recommendation applies to the stated equipment family, rather than a single model. The situations are examples: the same solution may suit other jackets, trousers, helmets, shoes or bags where materials and care instructions match. All 20 care and repair products in our selection are included.
What does your gear need?
- Dirt or odour → clean.
- Water no longer beads → clean first, dry as the label allows and test again. Reproof only if needed.
- Hole, leaking seam or loose sole → identify the material and assess the damage, then choose the right repair.
- Wet inside, crash damage or compromised protection → have the cause assessed.
GORE-TEX textile jackets and trousers: wash, then test water beading
Your model’s care label takes priority. Use a suitable liquid cleaner, rinse thoroughly and avoid fabric softener, bleach and washing powder. Heat can reactivate existing DWR if the garment allows it. Sprinkle some water onto the dry fabric: if it beads, no new spray is needed. If it soaks into the outer fabric, choose a compatible spray-on treatment. Special materials such as SHAKEDRY follow different rules. Leather panels may limit drying options.
Your care schedule
- After riding : Air and dry your gear, remove heavy dirt, check your visor and rinse the hydration system.
- When dirty or smelly : Wash washable textiles according to their labels. Treat leather, helmet pads and other materials separately.
- Before a long trip : Check water beading, seams, soles, fastenings and the hydration system. Allow enough time for repairs to cure.
- Before long-term storage : Clean, dry completely and store loosely in a dry, well-ventilated place.
Jackets & trousers / GORE-TEX
Washable textile jackets and trousers follow the same approach: clean, dry as labelled, test water beading and reproof only when needed. GORE-TEX examples from the KLIM range include Badlands Pro, Badlands Pro A3, Carlsbad, Kodiak, Latitude, Artemis and Altitude, in their GORE-TEX versions. This list is not exhaustive: other models, earlier generations and men’s or women’s versions are also covered where their materials and care labels allow. The model name does not limit the application. GORE-TEX gloves and footwear follow their own care instructions.
GORE-TEX jackets & trousers: remove dirt and odours
Which equipment? All washable GORE-TEX textile jackets and trousers, from KLIM or other brands, following their care labels.
Practical example : Your GORE-TEX jacket smells after several hot riding days, with dirt around the collar and cuffs.
When? When visibly dirty, smelly or no longer beading water well.
What to do : Wash with Revivex Pro Cleaner following the garment label. Empty pockets, remove removable armour as instructed and close fastenings. Follow the bottle dosage and rinse thoroughly.
Keep in mind : Do not automatically reproof after every wash: dry the garment and test water beading first.
Textile jackets & trousers: wash out road grime
Which equipment? Washable motorcycle and outdoor textile jackets and trousers, with or without a compatible membrane.
Practical example : Your washable textile motorcycle trousers have dirty streaks on the legs.
When? After dirty rides and before long-term storage.
What to do : S100 Functional Detergent is an alternative to Revivex cleaner. Choose one, follow its dosage and use the temperature allowed by the trouser care label. Rinse thoroughly.
Keep in mind : A detergent being suitable for leather does not mean every leather glove or boot can be machine washed.

GORE-TEX jackets & trousers: restore water beading
Which equipment? All washable GORE-TEX textile jackets and trousers, from KLIM or other brands, following their care labels.
Practical example : Rain soaks into the outer fabric of your GORE-TEX jacket while the inside stays dry.
When? If water still fails to bead after cleaning and permitted heat reactivation.
What to do : Spray Revivex evenly onto the clean, still-damp outer fabric. Dry according to both product and garment instructions; allow the full specified time when air drying.
Keep in mind : DWR restores water beading. It cannot repair a hole or a leaking membrane. Avoid wash-in proofing for this KLIM application.
Textile jackets & trousers: renew the outer water-repellent finish
Which equipment? Textile jackets and trousers with a suitable outer fabric, including compatible membrane garments.
Practical example : Your clean membrane motorcycle jacket needs its outer water-repellent treatment renewed.
When? After cleaning, if the water-beading test still fails.
What to do : S100 Waterproofing Spray is an alternative to Revivex spray. Check material compatibility, apply as directed on the can and allow to dry fully. Use this aerosol outdoors or with very good ventilation, away from ignition sources.
Keep in mind : One suitable spray is enough. Do not layer several proofing products.

GORE-TEX textiles: patch small holes and cuts
Which equipment? Suitable GORE-TEX fabric areas on jackets, trousers and other compatible equipment. Assess damage and protective function first.
Practical example : A branch has made a small cut in your GORE-TEX jacket, away from stressed seams.
When? For a local repair after assessing the damage.
What to do : Clean and dry the area fully. Apply a GearAid GORE-TEX patch with sufficient overlap and press firmly. Follow the package instructions and waiting times.
Keep in mind : A patch does not certify restored protection. Crash damage, delamination or damage to protective areas needs professional assessment first.

Leather surfaces
The leather type determines care: suitable areas may be on jackets, trousers, gloves, shoes or boots. Matt smooth leather, suede and mixed-material constructions do not automatically need the same treatment. A glove example therefore does not exclude jackets or boots when their materials permit the product.
Leather: gently remove insects and dirt
Which equipment? Suitable leather areas on gloves, jackets, trousers, shoes and boots. Check leather type and manufacturer instructions.
Practical example : Dried insects are stuck to the leather of your motorcycle gloves.
When? When dirty, before applying leather care.
What to do : Test S100 Leather Cleaner Gel on a hidden area. Clean gently as directed on the bottle, remove residue and allow to dry slowly at room temperature.
Keep in mind : Do not soak leather or dry it on a radiator. Check the leather type and glove care instructions.
Matt leather: condition dry, stiff areas
Which equipment? Suitable matt smooth leather or suede on clothing, gloves, shoes and boots; different finishes may need different care.
Practical example : Suitable matt leather areas on your motorcycle boots feel dry and stiff.
When? After cleaning and drying, whenever the leather needs conditioning.
What to do : Test S100 Leather Care Matt in a hidden area, then apply sparingly as directed on the can. Allow to dry thoroughly; the colour may deepen.
Keep in mind : Keep it off soles, brakes and surfaces that must remain grippy. Only use approved care products on membrane boots.

Shoes & boots
For shoes and boots across brands, such as KLIM or SIDI; examples, not an exhaustive list. First remove dirt gently and dry as instructed. Treat leather areas with suitable care, accounting for synthetic panels and membranes. Do not apply a GORE-TEX jacket’s machine-washing process to footwear. Repairs depend on materials, sole construction and damage extent.
Shoes & boots: bond a small loose sole edge
Which equipment? Shoes and boots across brands whose bonding surfaces are compatible with Aquasure +SR. Construction and the extent of damage determine suitability.
Practical example : A small section of the sole edge is lifting on a motorcycle boot whose remaining construction is sound.
When? After assessing it, allowing time for a full cure.
What to do : Use GearAid Aquasure +SR on clean, dry surfaces prepared as instructed. Hold the parts in place and allow about 8–12 hours to cure. Check the bond before use.
Keep in mind : Major separation, crumbling soles, damaged protective structures or uncertainty require a specialist. Do not ride immediately after gluing.

Helmets, visors & liners
For full-face, modular, open-face, adventure and off-road helmets across brands, such as KLIM, Arai, Bell, NEXX, LS2 or Sena. This is not an exhaustive list or blanket product approval. Choose care by component: shell and paint, textile comfort lining, visor or eyewear. Each product must suit the surface and the helmet instructions.
Helmets: clean the shell and compatible surfaces
Which equipment? Motorcycle helmets across brands and types; use each product only on surfaces approved by the helmet manufacturer.
Practical example : After a ride, insects and road grime are stuck to the helmet shell.
When? As needed during a trip; dry before storing.
What to do : The Oxford Mint kit combines cleaner, interior care, anti-fog and a cloth in travel sizes. Use each product only on its intended area and as allowed by the helmet manufacturer.
Keep in mind : Do not apply anti-fog to a Pinlock insert or an already coated inner surface without checking compatibility.
Helmets: clean the comfort lining and cheek pads
Which equipment? Textile comfort liners and cheek pads across motorcycle helmets. Follow the helmet instructions separately for removable and fixed pads.
Practical example : The removable pads in your motorcycle helmet smell after several hot riding days.
When? When dirty or smelly.
What to do : Muc-Off Helmet Care Kit V2 includes Foam Fresh, visor cleaner and a cloth. Remove pads as the helmet instructions allow and clean using the approved method, following each compatible kit product’s label. Dry completely.
Keep in mind : Remove electronics first. Do not soak the shell or impact liner; the helmet instructions take priority.
Visors & goggles: remove insects and smears
Which equipment? Compatible visor, eyewear and goggle surfaces across brands. Check Pinlock inserts, anti-fog and mirrored coatings separately.
Practical example : Insects and smears on your visor interfere with your view into the light.
When? Whenever visibility suffers, before riding again.
What to do : Gently rinse off coarse particles. Use the Muc-Off Visor, Lens & Goggle Cleaning Kit to loosen residue as instructed, then gently wipe with a clean microfibre cloth.
Keep in mind : Do not scrub dry. Follow separate care instructions for Pinlock inserts, mirrored lenses and special coatings.

Anti-fog inserts and helmet damage
If the visor fogs, first check ventilation, cleanliness and correct fitting of any insert. Use anti-fog products from Oxford or Muc-Off kits only on explicitly compatible surfaces; care for a Pinlock insert according to its own instructions. Cleaner cannot remove scratches. Replace damaged visors or inserts with suitable parts. Do not repair the shell, impact liner or chin strap with textile patches or shoe adhesive; after an impact, follow the manufacturer’s inspection or replacement instructions.
Zippers
Care depends on the zipper, not the clothing model. This covers compatible zippers on jackets, trousers, bags, backpacks and tents. Before lubricating, remove dirt and check teeth and sliders.
Zippers: restore smooth movement
Which equipment? Intact metal, plastic and coil zippers on jackets, trousers, bags and tents, where the zipper manufacturer permits this care.
Practical example : After a dusty trail, your jacket zipper feels stiff but its teeth are intact.
When? As soon as it becomes stiff; check before long trips.
What to do : Remove dust and sand with a soft brush first. Apply GearAid Zipper Stick sparingly to the outside of the teeth and gently open and close several times.
Keep in mind : Do not force it. Missing teeth or a broken slider require repair, not lubrication.

Luggage & textile repairs
Identify the material and coating before selecting a product. Ordinary nylon or polyester and silicone-coated fabrics require different adhesives and patches. Bag, stuff sack, tent and tarp examples apply to other items where material, coating and loads match; load-bearing components need separate assessment.
Compatible textiles: refresh water repellency
Which equipment? Suitable textile surfaces on clothing, backpacks and travel gear; check material approval.
Practical example : The compatible textile outer fabric of your travel backpack absorbs water.
When? After cleaning, before a trip and when water beading deteriorates.
What to do : Test Oxford Mint RainSeal on a hidden, clean and dry area first. Spray evenly from 20–30 cm away. Allow about 30–60 minutes to dry and 24 hours for full performance according to the product information.
Keep in mind : An ordinary backpack will not become waterproof. Do not routinely spray coated drybags; check their material instructions.

Non-silicone textiles: patch a small hole
Which equipment? Compatible non-silicone textiles on clothing, backpacks, luggage, stuff sacks and tents. Check material, coating and loads.
Practical example : The non-silicone nylon outer pocket on your backpack has a small hole.
When? Promptly, before it grows.
What to do : Press a GearAid Tenacious Tape repair patch firmly onto clean, completely dry fabric and smooth out air bubbles. Leave enough overlap all around. Wait at least 24 hours before washing.
Keep in mind : Not for silicone-treated surfaces. Torn straps or load-bearing seams need professional repair.

Non-silicone textiles: cover a longer tear
Which equipment? Compatible non-silicone textiles on clothing, backpacks, luggage, stuff sacks and tents. Check material, coating and loads.
Practical example : An irregular tear in your non-silicone nylon stuff sack is too long for a small patch.
When? Before using it again, after checking the material and loads.
What to do : Cut GearAid Tenacious Tape Repair Tape to size, round the corners and leave about 12 mm of overlap around the damage. Press firmly onto clean, dry fabric. Wait 24 hours before washing.
Keep in mind : Tape alone cannot validate a repair on heavily loaded or pressure-retaining equipment.

Non-silicone materials: seal a leaking seam
Which equipment? Suitable non-silicone materials on tents, bags and other equipment. Have damage to membrane garments assessed first.
Practical example : Water enters through a seam in compatible, non-silicone material on your touring tent.
When? Once dry, with enough time before the next exposure to rain.
What to do : Apply a thin layer of GearAid Seam Grip +WP to the clean, dry seam. Allow about 8–12 hours to cure fully, following the package and local conditions.
Keep in mind : Do not use on silicone coatings. Have peeling seam tape in a KLIM membrane jacket assessed first.

Silicone-coated textiles: repair a hole with a suitable patch
Which equipment? Silicone-coated silnylon and silpoly surfaces on tents, tarps, backpacks and stuff sacks.
Practical example : A twig has punctured your silicone-coated nylon tarp.
When? After cleaning and complete drying.
What to do : Trim a GearAid Tenacious Tape Silnylon patch if needed and press it firmly in place with sufficient overlap. This version is designed for silnylon and silpoly.
Keep in mind : Check the actual coating first. On fabrics with different coatings on each side, the adhesive must match the side being repaired.

Silicone-coated textiles: seal leaking seams
Which equipment? Silicone-coated silnylon and silpoly surfaces on tents, tarps, backpacks and stuff sacks.
Practical example : A seam in your silicone-coated flysheet leaks while the fabric itself is intact.
When? Before a trip or after a leak, on dry fabric.
What to do : Apply a thin, even layer of GearAid Seam Grip +SIL along the seam on the clean, dry silicone-coated side. Allow about 3–6 hours to cure as instructed and check before packing.
Keep in mind : Use +SIL for silicone surfaces and +WP for compatible non-silicone materials. They are not interchangeable.

Hydration systems
The reservoir, tube and connectors determine care. A compatible HydraPak system follows the same principles in a KLIM, USWE or another brand’s backpack. For retaining clips, also check strap and tube dimensions.
Hydration reservoirs & tubes: remove drink residue
Which equipment? HydraPak reservoirs and compatible drinking tubes, including those in other brands’ packs. The hydration system matters, not the pack logo.
Practical example : Drink residue remains in the HydraPak system in your backpack.
When? Rinse after every use; clean immediately after sports drinks.
What to do : Use the HydraPak Cleaning Kit for the reservoir and tube. Clean with warm water and an approved mild cleaner as the reservoir instructions specify; brush the tube, include the valve and rinse thoroughly. Dry all parts fully and leave them open.
Keep in mind : Replace damaged parts or those that cannot be cleaned. Never use textile detergent or repair adhesive inside a drinking system.
Hydration systems: secure the drinking tube
Which equipment? USWE and other hydration packs with shoulder straps and tubes compatible with the clip. Check the fit before installation.
Practical example : The tube hangs loose and its mouthpiece touches the ground when you put the pack down.
When? Before the next ride if the tube has no secure attachment.
What to do : Fit the USWE Magnetic Tube Clip to the compatible shoulder strap and tube. While stationary, check security, reach and a kink-free tube route.
Keep in mind : The clip holds the tube; it does not clean it or seal leaks. Clean a dirty mouthpiece before use.

What about the rest of the range?
Wash mesh, fleece and base layers according to their own care labels; a spray will not make ventilated summer gear waterproof. Use only suitable care for wool or down. Clean coated luggage gently and check its closures. Follow the individual instructions for heated clothing, airbags and electronics: do not assume electrical components can be washed. The GORE-TEX process does not automatically apply to these products.
When should you use a professional repair service?
Contact us for help assessing damaged armour, load-bearing seams, crash abrasion, large tears, delamination or leaking membranes. A patch or adhesive does not automatically restore tested motorcycle clothing protection. If a manufacturing defect is possible, contact us before attempting a home repair. Include the model, material and affected area; photos help with assessment.
